The TMJ System™
Appliances in The TMJ System™ help to relax the jaw and neck muscles, relieve pressure on the TMJs, alleviate snoring and limit bruxing (teeth grinding), while reducing head and neck pain. There are a variety of different appliances in the range, all of which are ready to use immediately out of the box. The appliance range includes The TMJ Appliance®which is MRC’s first appliance invented in the early 90's.
The TMJ Appliance®is a prefabricated, soft and flexible appliance that is fitted by the patient to aid in the diagnosis of TMJ dysfunction and provide symptom relief The TMJ Appliance®, which does not require any special fitting, is designed to act as an initial diagnostic and treatment tool for TMJ disorder. It works by decompressing the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), helps to correct mouth breathing and tongue posture habits, as well as limits bruxing.
The TMJ Appliance® achieves TMJ disorder symptom relief immediately by alleviating pressure on the TMJ and relaxes the muscles around the jaw and neck. The TMJ Appliance®treats both intracapsular and extracapsular disorders—TMJ clicking and pain (intracapsular) as well as pain referred from the craniomandibular muscles (extracapsular).
lPosition The TMJ Appliance® into your mouth with tongue tag upwards.
lMake sure the centerline of The TMJ Appliance® is aligned with the midline of your upper teeth.
lClose together gently until your teeth lightly contact the aerofoil-shaped base.
lKeep lips together [breathing through the nose].
lDo not clench or grind on The TMJ Appliance®.
lSit quietly in a relaxed position for approximately one hour. It is best if your chair has a headrest so that the head and neck are supported.
lUse for one hour every day and overnight while sleeping.
lAfter one hour, gently stretch the muscles of the jaw and neck by turning your head from left to right, backwards and forward, and shrugging your shoulders. Remove The TMJ Appliance® afterthese stretching exercises.
